A few books we’re really enjoying at our house right now:
The Holistic Orchard by Michael Phillips
Storey’s Guide to Raising Chickens
The Dirty Life by Kristin Kimball
Wisdom of the Last Farmer by David Mas Masumoto
I just finished The Dirty Life and I’m tempted to pick it up and read it again! Farmer Kristin Kimball tells the sometimes funny/sometimes painful story of her farm’s start-up year – a very challenging, but deeply rewarding experience, replete with barnyard animal-related misadventures.
Jeff just picked up a copy of The Holistic Orchard, to guide us as we starting thinking about planting a few fruit trees and berries on this nice south-facing slope:
I loved The Dirty Life. It was great. I also enjoyed a recent offering from Gene Logsdon about Manure, which gave me a fascinating respect for poop! http://www.amazon.com/Holy-Shit-Managing-Manure-Mankind/dp/1603582517/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325916317&sr=8-1
Just finished the book. Read it in 2 days. Loved it!!!Can't wait to see all your going to be planting. So happy to see the land remain as a farm.
Is the author of the orchard book the one that is going to be at the conference in Kingston in March? Are you going to have pick up at your farm?
Yes, Michael Phillips will be speaking at the NOFA-NH Winter Conference on March 3rd!
We're offering 3 CSA pick-up options this year: at the farm on Tuesdays, at the Exeter market on Thursdays, or at the Epping market on Fridays. There are lots more details on our CSA page: http://www.stoutoakfarm.com/p/2012-csa_01.html
