winter market season begins!

Gilfeather Turnips

We are packing our truck for the first Winter Farmers’ Market of the season. We’re loading up squash, potatoes, onions, carrots, turnips, and a bunch of other stuff I’ve been washing, sorting and packing for the last few days. We are almost ready!

The pre-Thanksgiving market is one of my favorite days of the year, as we come together for the start of another winter market season. Market booths are literally overflowing with beautiful food. Customers arrive with serious shopping lists, and everyone is talking passionately – about cooking!   They are trading pie-making tips, talking about squash varieties, and sharing their grandmothers’ stuffing recipes. People leave the market carrying giant turkeys and big bags of potatoes that will feed dozens of their friends and relatives. I love just watching it all happen.

If you’re looking for something to do tomorrow that is sure to make you smile, come to the market!  10am – 2pm at Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsford.  For more info, visit www.seacoasteatlocal.org
