high speed transplanting (sort of)

It’s always fun to try out a new tool. Last week we borrowed a water wheel transplanter from our friend Glenn at Willow Pond Community Farm.  Once we got it set up, we were amazed at how much planting we got done!  The planter makes the holes, and drops water in the planting row.  While one person drives the tractor as slowly as possible, two other people sit on the back, taking plants out of plug trays, dropping them into the holes, and covering them with soil as best they can.  It may look like it’s happening in slow motion, but when you’re sitting on the back of the planter, some serious concentration and coordination is required to keep up!  It all happens in a flash!
