frosty in mid-September

First frost September 18th. Bye, bye tomatoes. Bye, bye cucumbers and zucchini.
Jeff moved the hens to the other side of the road yesterday, to a field we’re in the process of renovating with a clover cover crop. Now the chickens are going to do their part, adding fertility, scratching up bugs, and eating weed seeds.

These crops didn’t mind the cold. Lettuce for next week’s CSA shares, and leeks for our November Thanksgiving Shares.
