FARM NEWS:
Last week’s Tomato Tasting was a good time!  It was great to see so many
CSA friends there. Joanne made some ridiculously good salsa, and we ate
tomatoes until we couldn’t anymore. Of the twenty or so tomato
varieties we sampled, the most popular was Rose de Berne,
a beautiful and tasty French heirloom. If you haven’t had a chance to
try these, make sure you pick one up with your share this week (they’re
dark pink, smooth-skinned, medium-sized).

In other news, Kate has been invited by the New England Farmers Union
to travel to Washington, DC next week (Sept 9 -12) as part of a “Farmer
Fly In” to meet with our Senators and Representatives about the 2012 Farm Bill. As you may have heard,
Congress needs to pass a Farm Bill by September 30, or many critical programs will expire, including funding that is vital to supporting farmers’
markets, value added agriculture, beginning farmers, organic
agriculture, renewable energy, and nutrition assistance. For more info about NEFU’s important work on the Farm Bill, follow these links to their Action Alert and Farm Bill Platform. Check the blog for news from Kate about the Farmer Fly In and the Farm Bill Now Rally happening in DC next week.
