FARM NEWS:
We had a great turnout for the potato digging party last Wednesday. By
noontime we had dug 350 pounds of potatoes, and we had so much fun!
Great work potato diggers! Now the potatoes are curing in the barn and
we’re making plans for another digging party to finish up the rest of
the harvest.
Although we’re still very much in the midst of the summer harvest, the
big farm tasks of the fall season are already on our minds. The onions,
winter squash, and pumpkins will need to be harvested and cured, fields
cover cropped, garlic planted. We just ordered seed garlic, and this
week we’ll be filling the hay loft with straw, which will be used to
mulch the garlic, strawberries, and perennial beds before winter. The
cold storage room construction is underway, and we are making plans to
put up another hoophouse.
The Farm Store has been busier than ever, and we’ve recently added some new items to the mix:
- Sausage: Hot Italian Pork Sausage from Harrison’s Poultry Farm in Candia, NH
- More Eggs: In addition to our own eggs, we’re also offering eggs from Harrison’s Poultry Farm
- Bread: Baguettes, Focaccia, and Loaves (Whole Wheat Multigrain,
and Cinnamon Swirl) from Life Is Sweet Baking Company – on Saturdays - Sweet Treats: Carrot Cake Muffins from Blue Moon Evolution (made with our carrots) – on Saturdays
